MCN CROWNS SUZUKI GSX-8R SPORTSBIKE OF THE YEAR
Motorcycle News has crowned the Suzuki GSX-8R as its “Sportsbike of the Year”. The 8R collects the award a year after its naked stablemate, the GSX-8S, won the award for Best Naked.
The award makes it two awards in two years for Suzuki’s 776cc parallel twin engine platform, which has won favour with press and customers alike thanks to its punchy power delivery and flexibility.
The GSX-8R was heralded as ‘a sublime bit of kit’ by the world famous motorcycling newspaper, and praised for being ‘cracking fun to ride’ and for being ‘living proof that sportsbikes can be fun, comfortable and capable, without breaking the bank, as it blends sportiness with everyday usability.
Jak Tyrrell, Suzuki GB’s senior motorcycle marketing manager, said after collecting the award, “It’s obviously really pleasing to see the 8R recognised as the great bike it is, but, for us, it’s also great to see that our latest engine platform is clearly a leading light in the middleweight category, with two MCN awards in two years. The GSX-8R really captured imaginations when it was revealed, and has clearly delivered on its promise to be a sportsbike accessible for all riders.”
The GSX-8R houses its 776cc engine inside a brand new chassis, with suspension from Showa, including the firm’s SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork – Big Piston) at the front. Radially-mounted Nissin four-piston calipers provide the stopping power.
An electronics package features a bi-directional quickshifter as standard, three power modes, and three traction control settings, with all information displayed via a colour TFT screen.
The GSX-8R is currently available with 4.9% APR representative finance over four years, and with a £2,038.56 deposit it can be ridden away for just £69 per month.
NEW COLOURS FOR ICONIC SV650
Suzuki has launched three new colours for the SV650, with this year being the 25th year of production for the iconic middleweight.
Respected and loved by riders the world over for its real-world performance and versatility, the SV650 is still equally capable for the daily commute as it is on a track day, thanks to its infectious V-twin character that has been captivating new and experienced riders alike for the last 25 years.
The legendary middleweight comes in a brand new pearl vigor blue with striking colour matched frame and wheels. There are two further options which both come with bronze frame and wheels, and the choice of matt black or green colour scheme.

QUARTER OF A CENTURY OF BUSA AND SV CELEBRATED AT SUZUKI LIVE
2024 marks the 25th anniversary of both the legendary Hayabusa and the cult classic SV650. Both launched in 1999 to do very different jobs, their birthdays will be celebrated at Suzuki Live, which takes place at Cadwell Park on 22-23 June.
Suzuki is inviting owners to bring their bikes along to the event, with dedicated parking and display areas in the paddock reserved for ‘Busas and SVs.
The show-and-shine style display areas will be sponsored by Dunlop, with a free pair of tyres up for grabs for the owners of the best examples on display.
Over the two days there will be track sessions for Suzukis old and new, with sessions scheduled for everything from classic RGs and RGVs to modern GSX-Rs and GTs. There will also be a host of bikes available to test ride on the surrounding Lincolnshire roads, including the new GSX-S1000GX, the GSX-8R, and the V-Strom 800RE, as well as the third generation Hayabusa. Those interested in the latest V-Strom 800DE and V-Strom 1050DE can enjoy off-road test rides in the SR75 Suzuki V-Strom Experience Zone.
Suzuki GB marketing manager Jak Tyrrell commented, “We’re a little over a month away from Suzuki Live and it’s set to be the biggest one yet. While there will be plenty of track sessions for those taking part, there’s going to be even more to see and do away from the circuit action, starting with the two anniversary display areas.
“25 years is a huge milestone for two motorcycling stalwarts: the SV has provided fun, affordable motorcycling for the masses since 1999, has been the first ‘big bike’ of so many riders, and still fills racing grids at club level. And, still, a quarter of a century later, nothing comes close to a Hayabusa. It’s very easy to overuse words like ‘icon’ or ‘legend’, but that is what the Hayabusa is.”
Suzuki Live takes place on 22-23 June at Cadwell Park. Weekend tickets cost £15 and include access to the whole paddock area, plus free camping.
SUZUKI REVEALS TWO NEW COLOUR OPTIONS FOR GSX-R125
Two new colour options are now available for Suzuki’s GSX-R125, including a retro-inspired blue and white livery that pays homage to the GSX-R lineage and history.
A blue tank and nose sit above white side panels and belly pan, which are adorned with the familiar blue stripes running from the front up onto the seat unit. Lightweight blue wheels complete the look.
It is joined by a more subtle all-black version, which is is accented by red decals and red wheels.
The learner-friendly race replica boasts an incredible power-to-weight ratio in the class with a free-revving, DOHC single cylinder engine, plus keyless ignition and low-rpm assist.
BAG A BARGAIN WITH £500 OFF SUZUKI GSX-R AND GSX-S125
Suzuki has announced a new offer on its GSX-R and GSX-S125 machines, with customers able to save £500 off the learner-legal machines.
Launching this bank holiday weekend and running until 30 June, it makes it even easier for those looking to get onto two wheels this summer.
As a result, the GSX-S125 street bike costs £4,499, with its racier sibling costing £4,699 OTR.
Both bikes produce an L-plate-friendly 15PS to adhere to licence laws, with a single-cylinder engine that revs cleanly and freely to its top end thanks to its DOHC design.
Housed in a featherweight chassis – the GSX-S weighs just 135kg, wet – both bikes are sporty and agile, as well as being confidence-inspiring and easy to manage.
The GSX-R125 uses keyless ignition, both are equipped with Suzuki’s easy-start system, and come with a three-year manufacturer warranty.
V-STROM 800RE TOUR JOINS SUZUKI LINEUP
Suzuki has added a V-Strom 800RE Tour to its lineup, which comes with 112 litres of aluminium luggage and a saving of £706.94.
Buyers can choose from either silver or black three-piece luggage, comprising a top box and panniers, and with an OTR price of £11,199, customers will save £706.94 over equipping the standard V-Strom 800RE with the individual accessories.
Available in blue, matt steel green, or black, the V-Strom 800RE Tour expands Suzuki’s V-Strom 800 range to four models, all of which use the firm’s new 776cc parallel twin engine with its 270-degree crankshaft design, delivering an abundance of smooth low-down drive and midrange thrust.
The 800RE models come with 19” and 17” cast aluminium wheels and Nissin radial calipers. Aluminium, rubber-covered footpegs are set 14mm further rearward and 7mm higher than the V-Strom 800DE, and aluminium tapered handlebars are 13mm lower and 23mm further forwards. They’re also 15mm narrower. A taller and wider screen offers more weather and wind protection on longer rides. Like the DE, suspension comes courtesy of Showa, but with a focus on superior on-road performance there is 150mm of travel front and rear.
A bi-directional quickshifter comes as standard, and there are three selectable power modes and three choices of traction control settings, which can also be switched off. All the information is displayed via a colour TFT dash, nestled behind a large, wind-cheating screen.
SUZUKI BRINGING NEW V-STROM RANGE TO 2024 ABR FESTIVAL
Suzuki is bringing its new V-Strom range to this year’s ABR Festival, which takes place at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire on 27-30 June, with a comprehensive display of bikes plus on and off-road demo rides available.
On display at the UK’s premier adventure bike show for the first time will be the new V-Strom 800RE. Using Suzuki’s new 776cc parallel twin engine, it follows hot on the heels of the V-Strom 800DE, and comes equipped with three engine modes and three traction control settings, a colour TFT screen, and a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.
While the 800DE comes with an additional off-road traction control mode and ABS that can be disengaged at the rear, plus 21 and 17” spoked wheels, 220mm of suspension travel, and 220mm ground clearance, the 800RE is tailored to adventure on-road. 150mm suspension travel, a wider, 19” front wheel, radial brakes, and revised ergonomics provide superior road holding and a plush ride for long distances in the saddle. There’s also a taller screen and lower seat height.
Visitors can test ride the new 800RE over the course of the show, as it forms part of Suzuki’s on road test ride fleet, alongside the 800DE, which can also be taken around the event’s off-road loop.
Both the V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050DE will also be on display and available to test ride over the duration of the festival.
In addition to the firm’s V-Strom range, show-goers can also test ride the new GSX-S1000GX sports crossover, which comes with a comprehensive suite of electronics, topped by semi-active suspension from Showa, the GSX-S1000GT sports tourer, and both the GSX-8S and GSX-8R machines.
Displayed on the Suzuki stand in the exhibitors’ area will be various V-Strom models, including Tour variants that are equipped with three-piece aluminium luggage as standard. Also shown will be the V-Strom 650XT, and the GSX-S1000GX+ and GSX-S1000GT+, which come fitted with two 36-litre panniers.
Supercross team and off-road bike building specialists, SR75 Suzuki, will display an RM-Z450 race bike, and a project V-Strom 650XT and V-Strom 800DE. Team owner and former racer Geoff Walker will also be hand to talk all things Suzuki and off-road for the full four days.
Representing Suzuki’s off-road heritage will be a DR800S.
Test rides can be booked from the Suzuki display on a first come, first served basis. Those wishing to take part will need to provide their driving licence and national insurance number.

SUZUKI FINANCE
YOUR PASSION, OUR PROMISE.
We're here to help you purchase the Suzuki you desire at a monthly repayment you can afford.
We have years of experience and expertise in providing finance to bikers. We understand that as riders, we all have different needs and we pride ourselves on providing flexible, straight forward finance options that fit them.
Read on to discover our available options and how they can work for you.
PCP EXPLAINED
PCP, or Personal Contract Purchase, is a finance plan that allows you to spread the cost of your vehicle with lower monthly repayments than a Hire Purchase (HP) product as a large proportion of the amount you repay is deferred into an optional final repayment. You will pay more interest on a PCP agreement than a HP agreement for the same loan amount, as your balance reduces more slowly due to the optional final repayment.
PCP STEP 1:
Agree an initial deposit and term with the dealer and then decide how many miles you’ll travel each year.
PCP STEP 2:
The dealer will then work out the monthly repayment amount and optional final repayment amount, which is based on the anticipated value of the motorcycle at the end of the agreement.
PCP STEP 3:
At the end of your agreement, you can part exchange the motorcycle, return the motorcycle (return conditions apply) or pay the optional final repayment and own the motorcycle.
PCP STEP 4:
Black Horse buys the motorcycle on your behalf and owns the motorcycle for the duration of the finance agreement.
PCP STEP 5:
At the end of your agreement, you have three options:
Part Exchange: Subject to paying off your existing agreement in full, you can part exchange the motorcycle at the end of the term or any time during the agreement. New credit agreements are subject to status.
Return: You have the option to return the motorcycle to us at the end of your agreement.
Own: You can chose to own the motorcycle outright by paying the optional final repayment. A purchase fee of £10 is included.

HP EXPLAINED
HP, or Hire Purchase, is a finance plan that allows you to spread the cost of the vehicle by making monthly payments over an agreed term. NEW SUZUKI GSX-8R PRICING ANNOUNCED
Fresh from its reveal at Eicma in Milan, Italy, earlier this month, Suzuki has announced UK pricing of the new GSX-8R: the new middleweight sportsbike will come with an OTR price of £8,899 when it arrives in dealerships in February.
The GSX-8R uses Suzuki’s new 776cc parallel twin engine, with its 270° crankshaft providing a V-twin-esque feel and soundtrack. Thanks to its long stroke design it produces an abundance of torque throughout the rev range, peaking at 78 Nm at 6800rpm. Peak power is 82.9PS at 8,500rpm.
While the main chassis is shared with the GSX-8S, suspension comes from Showa, and there are lower handlebars to provide a sportier riding position, with riders tucked behind the new, GSX-R-inspired full fairing.
As standard there is a bi-directional quickshifter, three power modes and three selectable traction control modes, with all information displayed via a 5” colour TFT screen.

Or, those looking to cover big miles on a big adventure bike can pick up the V-Strom 1050, with its similarly all encompassing suite of electronics, DR Big-inspired style, and punchy 1037cc V-twin motor, for £109 per month over the same period with a £2,711.30 deposit, while also equipping it with their choice of complementary extras.

Jonathan Martin, Suzuki GB head of motorcycles, said, “The clocks have gone back, the nights have drawn in, and the temperatures have dropped, but it’s still a good time for riders to put a new Suzuki in the garage for less this winter. We understand that monthly payments remain key for our customers and by offering an incredibly low 2.9% through the winter we believe more customers will take advantage now and not wait until spring to ride away on a new Suzuki.”

NEW V-STROM 800RE TO ENHANCE SUZUKI ADVENTURE BIKE LINEUP
Following the launch of its all-new V-Strom 800DE earlier this year, Suzuki has announced a new V-Strom 800RE that will further expand its adventure bike stable, ensuring the V-Strom range is truly ready for any terrain, any horizon, any adventure.
Born to roam, the V-Strom 800RE will provide a more road-focussed offering than its more off-road-ready sibling. With DE denoting the V-Strom 800DE’s positioning as a dual explorer, the adoption of RE for the latest V-Strom 800 model highlights its abilities as the road explorer.
Arriving in November, the new V-Strom 800RE will come with an OTR price of £9,699.
At its heart, the new V-Strom 800RE uses the same new 776cc parallel twin engine as its stablemate, with its double overhead cam and 270° crankshaft design delivering a broad spread of torque throughout the rev range – peaking at 78Nm at 6800rpm – and a rumble and character more akin to Suzuki’s famed V-twins. Peak power is 84.3PS at 8500rpm.
It also uses the same steel main frame, engineered for a balance of straight-line stability and agile handling. The narrow steel tubes also help maximise fuel tank capacity, which comes in at 20 litres. However, the new V-Strom 800RE differs from its more rugged counterpart most notably by swapping 21” and 17” spoked wheels and tubed tyres for 19” and 17” cast aluminium wheels, wearing Dunlop tubeless tyres.
Like the V-Strom 800DE, high quality suspension is still provided by Showa, but with a focus on delivering superior on-road performance. 150mm of travel at the front and rear comes courtesy of preload-adjustable inverted front forks and a link-type monoshock adjustable for preload and rebound damping, delivering sure-footed roadholding and a plush ride for long days in the saddle. Stopping power comes from radially-mounted four piston Nissin calipers.
Further underlying the V-Strom 800RE’s prowess as the tool to explore all roads it comes with a seat height of 825mm, while aluminium, rubber-covered footpegs are set 14mm further rearward and 7mm higher than the V-Strom 800DE, and aluminium tapered handlebars are 13mm lower and 23mm further forwards. They’re also 15mm narrower. A taller and wider screen offers more weather and wind protection on longer rides.
Nestled underneath the screen is a 5” colour TFT screen with dual display modes for day and nighttime riding. All the navigation of menus and features is done via a simple, easy-to-use rocker switch on the left-hand handlebar. There’s also a handy USB port located on the left-hand side.
Displayed on the bright, clear screen is all the information required by the rider, including the current setting selected from its three-mode traction control system – which can also be switched off – and the current power mode selected, from Active (the more sportier and direct throttle map), Basic (ideal for cruising or city riding), and Comfort (perfect for wet or cold conditions). There are also two ABS settings, providing differing levels of intervention.
A ride-by-wire throttle connection provides a natural feel and connection to the rear wheel, while a standard-fit bi-directional quickshifter – allied to a slipper clutch – makes gear changes slick and seamless. There’s also Suzuki’s low rpm assist and easy start function.
Sharing a similar DR Big-inspired look as the 800DE, complete with iconic beak and full LED lighting front and rear, the V-Strom 800RE will come in Pearl Vigor Blue, Metallic Matt Steel Green, and Glass Sparkle Black.
There will also be a full suite of genuine accessories available including a choice of three-piece aluminium or plastic luggage, heated grips, and a centre stand.
V-STROM 650XT ADVENTURETO ARCTIC FINLAND
The call of the open road, the thrill of exploration, and the allure of far-off destinations have always been the hallmarks of motorcycle adventures. Gordon Stuart has been lucky enough to travel some of the world’s greatest roads by motorcycle, from the Dalton Highway in Alaska, The Verdon Canyon in South East France, to the Lofoten Islands in Norway and the F roads across Iceland.
As part of his ongoing quest to ride across The Arctic Circle in every country possible, at the start of 2020 Gordon settled on the V-Strom 650XT as the perfect bike for his next planned adventure to Arctic Finland as well as plenty of day trips around his native Northumberland, and weekend runs to Scotland.
Gordon had ambitious plans, 4,000 miles in nine and half days from home in Newcastle to Arctic Finland via Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Sweden, popping into Norway on the way home just because. Utilising his personalised champion yellow V-Strom with silver Givi outback trekker side cases, Gordon set off from Newcastle to catch the ferry to the Netherlands from Hawrich in Essex, some 326 miles away.
After the rest of an overnight ferry, Gordon docked early into Rotterdam at 8am on day two, ready for what turned out to be a punishing day in the saddle. Blitzing through the picturesque Dutch countryside and the distant cityscapes of Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Apeldoorn, Gordon was in Germany before noon with 150 miles in the bank. It was another 280 miles across Germany to the Northern town of Puttgarden where he would catch a ferry to Denmark.
Progress was stalled upon hitting major roadworks on the Bundesautobahn 1. Sweltering in the sun, low speed filtering became a chore, slowing progress, making the arrival into Denmark late. Even though the sun was starting to sit low in the sky he pressed on for Sweden, crossing the iconic Øresund Bridge from Copenhagen into Malmo, offering breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea – entering Malmo around 10pm, 545 miles done and 30 shy of the planned mileage.
The final leg of the journey North took him into the wilderness of Finland. The landscape evolved from lush forests to vast tundras and crystal-clear lakes, and not a motorway since Germany. The weather in Finland was cold and wet, up there with some of the worst conditions he had ridden – on par with Iceland in 2018 and Norway in 2011.
Thankfully the final day north saw the weather ease but the roads narrow. This northern wilderness was bathed in perpetual daylight, creating a surreal atmosphere, especially witnessing the midnight sun inside the Arctic Circle, which marked the pinnacle of this adventure and the fourth time Gordon had crossed the Arctic Circle by motorcycle.
The route home took in more of the delights of Finland, as well as the seemingly never-ending forests of Sweden, and a small visit into Norway to enjoy some of the amazing roads and landscapes.
Gordon said of the trip, “My V-Strom 650XT was the perfect motorcycle for the trip and never missed a beat. There was a great amount of power and range in the engine, even when fully loaded with my camping gear, and it was light and nimble enough to really enjoy the Scandinavian roads and mountain passes. The fuel-economy was fantastic which was a helpful benefit considering current fuel prices across Europe. Comfort was good, too, with some long days in the saddle. Needless to say, I can’t wait for my next V-Strom adventure.”
